calvus (cal) [Latin: ‘bald’] A cloud species. A cumulonimbus cloud in which the tops of certain towers have started to lose their hard cumuliform outline, but cirriform characteristics are not yet readily apparent. Some striations may be evident. This stage indicates that glaciation has begun in the top of the cloud
